Memory Number 7

So this is my memory number 7, one a day as promised. Now this photo was taken one morning in Seatown some years ago, what a glorious day it was -

But by the time the evening had set it it looked like this -

Still beautiful but a little scary! Oh and to embarrass my little sis again -

I'm really thinking of taking a wee photography course the photo of my sis makes me think that maybe I have a talent or maybe she's just gorgeous and so was the beach! Lol

Soap Making Part 2 & First Ever Giveaway!

Soap success! So my soap turned out perfectly! Cutting was a little trial and error. I started with the 'loaf' the right way up with the flowers at the top but the bars ended up looking like this with lines down from the dried lavender -

After a couple I thought to myself "let's turn it upside down" and they looked like this -

Much, much better and tidier! From the small batch I made I came out with 8 full size bars and the two end bits. This is the whole lot -

So for my first ever giveaway to win a lovely handcrafted lavender scented slice of soap leave a comment stating which scent is you favourite and why.

Please remember that this has been made at home in my kitchen and in not certified in any way. It may not be suitable for pregnant people as it contains lavender essential oil. It is 100% natural and a list of ingredients can be provided if needed.

You have until the 24th March to enter, the winner will be announced on the 25th March. Good Luck!

Soap Making Part One

So for a while I've been looking into soap making. Proper soap making, none of the 'melt and pour' stuff. I'm talking real Shea butter, coconut oil, sweet almond oil etc mixed with lye.

It's taken a couple on months to round up all the tools and ingredients, here's most of them -

My best buy was the wooden soap cutter above, I snapped this up on eBay. The only thing wrong with it was the blade had come out of the handle but all it needed was a little wood glue! So that was a steel at £4.70 that's at least £10 cheaper than a new one!

All the soap moulds were also from eBay £11.00 for 12 Milky Way moulds which normally retail at £5 each.

Heres a couple of photos of me making my first ever soap this afternoon. This is the Lye mix cooling -

This is the melted solid fats and the olive oil -

I was hell of a nervous because of the caustic soda (lye) and i didn't want to get burn by it or destroy anything!

Tomorrow I'll show you photos of the finished soaps :-)

Memory Number 4

This is one my favourite photos which was taken on an evening run using the rubbish camera on my phone! I was just running though some fields down the road and had stop to capture this natural beauty!

Also thought I'd share this fun one with you. This is my step sister years ago at a Jersey Dairy farm up the road. She has nothing in her hands but they loved licking and sucking the natural salt - very odd sensation! How cute are these little ladies though!

This was taken on the same day, a very young calf in a barn. So darn cute!

I'll be back tomorrow with another old photo blog.

Memory Number 3

This was a younger, slimmer me back at uni 7 years ago when I was 18! Feels like a lifetime ago! I really was pretty back then, shame I couldn't really see it myself.

Feel I look a little chavy in this photo though!

Another day another memory

This was taken in Wincanton at where I call my thinking place. To me this view oozes creativity and peace. This was a random beautiful dusky evening around 6 years ago. Due to building works an new houses it doesn't look quite so nice now but is still impressive.

This place reminds me of day dreams and inner peace! Hmmmmm, think I may go up there again this weekend.

Old memories

So for this week I'm going to share with you one old photo from my laptop that broke 5 years ago but I have finaly managed to save!

I have to say that I'm quite impressed with some of them. So here's you first taste of my photographic expertise! LoL

This I took around 6/7 years ago when I was at uni. I mean how beautiful is this place!? These grounds became my saviour through a very tough part of my life. Looking at it now it inspires so much love, poetry and romance. I used to run through the grounds before lectures and a common thing was to see deer drinking from the lake in the early hours before campus awoke. Beautiful I think you'll agree.

Bargain of the Week

So I've been dying to get a pair of good quality winter boots, but the price tags on the ones I liked left a lot to be desired! Until I visited my Mum at work - she works in a shoe shop in town. They had a sale on but never have anything in my size but today they did, one pair of boots and they were perfect. The price tag £65 so I walked away, that's when my mum showed me the other boot with the sale price. . . . . Leather Wrangler boots £15!!!! I snapped them up! What do you think?

Perfect for under jeans with thick warm socks! Can't go wrong for £15.00! And they should last for years!

Goodbye January

So January has now been and gone. To be honest I'm quite glad, this year I had a huge case of January blues!

So my first month of challenges and I think I did quite well.

I made my first ever pie from scratch which was so so tasty! My Hubby can't wait for the next one and has been bugging me since!

I learnt a new craft skill whilst making a 'big' project. I'm saving the photos and tutorial until I have the canvases up on the wall. But as a hint it involved the best invention ever . . . . MOD Podge! I had never used the stuff before now and I LOVE IT!

I failed at losing 4lbs though, but I don't see that a huge issue, it's been a busy and quite horrible month all-round. And I haven't been on the treadmill at all yet - I hurt my big toe at Zumba :-(

But I have been going to Zumba twice a week all month, which has been hard work. I'm now starting to feel that going to two Zumba class a week by the same instructor is taking the some of the fun out of it. My Mum and I need to sit down and discuss it and decide what to do.

On Sunday my dearest friend Harry and I went for a walk. We left at 8am and didn't get home until 10:40! It was so wonderful strolling along in the brisk, frosty, quiet morning. We tried to remember an old walk that we used to do when we were teenagers, it was nice to reminisce. The fields we quite and white with frost, we walked down lanes of beautiful houses and cottages. We spotted some pheasants, alpaca, pigmy goats, buzzards and bantams to name a few. It really was bliss. When I got home I calculated how far we had been and was very surprised to find it was around 7 miles. We had to agree to do the same next month but explore a different route.

That's all for now guys and gals.
